“You are wearing a DEAD WOMAN’S ring.”
Present day, the statement my ex-best friend made at my wedding in 2023. I don’t know how to unpack that statement.
I told the ex-bestie six months later that I love and miss her as a friend (30 years makes that inevitable.) I hoped that the passing of time would abate the abhorrence she felt towards me. Alas, my marriage is still a thorn in her side.
Although my friend felt I was wearing a dead woman’s ring, I love estate jewellery. The quality and workmanship are exceptional. The pieces have a provenance. It is true, we as humans die, the jewellery lives on. The fact that you cannot take it with you remains.
